Mobile Phones Print

To use your mobile/cell phone in Halifax, you must ensure that your cell phones from your country can operate on GSM frequency of 1900 MHz. Ask your mobile telephone provider in your country if your mobile phone can work in 1900 frequency mode. If you bring your own mobile phone, you can purchase a SIM card and telephone time from any cell phone provider in Halifax. Please make sure to ask your mobile provider if your telephone will be able to accept a foreign SIM card, or if it needs to be unlocked first.

If your mobile telephone does not operate on the 1900 MHz frequency, then you can purchase a local mobile phone in Halifax with a “Pay-As-You-Go” card. The cost for the telephone and initial talking plan is approximately $100 CDN (Price as of summer of 2007).
