The University Preparatory English program (UP-English)
is designed for academically-qualified, university-bound students whose
first language is not English. The International Language Institute
(ILI) offers this eight-week program every July and October for
students planning to enter university in the fall or winter semesters.
Students are required to have an IELTS score of 6.0 or a iBT TOEFL score of 78 to
qualify for admission to the UP-English program. Students who are not
yet at this level should correspond with the ILI registrar's office.
Assessment tests will be administered to determine how many four-week
terms of study students will need to bring their English to UP level.
To qualify for admission to the UP program, students should have been accepted for study
in a degree-granting program or have special permission from the
International Language Institute. Requests for special permission
should be directed to the Registrar, Raissa Musial at

Standardized Test Scores
Some universities accept ILI’s University Preparatory course to satisfy
their English language requirement for admission; others require a
minimum score on an international, standardized, proficiency test
(e.g., IELTS or TOEFL). Minimum admission scores vary with the
student’s choice of university and program of study.
ILI does not include a standardized proficiency test as part of its
University Preparatory course. However, we can help arrange for
official IELTS or iBT TOEFL tests.
